Folk Instruments Specialization

Students of the Folk Instruments Specialization are taught to play traditional Lithuanian folk instruments: “birbynė”, “kanklės”, “lamzdelis”. The repertoire is very diverse, ranging from national and classical pieces to pop and jazz compositions.

At the Vilnius “Lyra” Music School, students of the Folk Instruments Specialization come together to form a folk instruments orchestra, with which they perform at various concerts and festivals in Lithuania and abroad. They have already visited Germany, the Czech Republic, Estonia, and Latvia, and participate in the Song Festivals.

Additionally, students actively perform in ensembles of various compositions with instrumentalists and vocalists from other specializations. Here you can hear a student from our department playing with “birbynė” in an ensemble with the accordion and piano.

The curator of the Folk Instruments Specialization is teacher Laurynas Vaitkus.

Students of the specialization learn to play the following instruments:

Lamzdelis
Birbynė
